Presidential Signing Statements: Then and Now

In an April 18th post entitled “Obama Signs Budget Bill – Czars Stay”, I wrote about president Obama’s ignoring of some of the provisions of the 2011 budget compromise. Among other things, the agreement “prohibited the White House from funding four czars: climate change, urban affairs, the auto industry and healthcare.  But at the signing, he said no dice, the czars stay.”  Read the full post here.

To make matters worse, in 2007 president Obama said that he would never use signing statements to bypass congress and/or the courts.  Watch it here:
