Senator Dick Durbin (D, IL) is at it again! He wants to guarantee free speech protection for “Legitimate Journalists.” I guess Mr. Durbin is unaware that our unalienable rights of free speech does not come from Mr. Durbin’s government, they are endowed by our Creator, and guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.
On Jun 16th, 2012, I had the pleasure of sharing a table with Michelle Malkin at RightOnline in Las Vegas. We were both doing interviews for a radio show that would air later in Orlando. Just to put the date in perspective, this was only a few days after she appeared on Hannity along with Juan Williams where he claimed that he was a “real reporter” and not a blogger out in the blogosphere. That was a big mistake and it damned him to face the ire (known as the truth) of Michelle Malkin. I have never been so proud to be “Just a Blogger.”
Dick Durbin Seeks Special Protection for “Legitimate Journalists”: Is freedom of speech different from freedom of the press? Dick Durbin thinks so. Last week, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin called for a political definition of journalism, saying that “we must define a journalist and the constitutional and statutory protects [sic] those journalists should receive.” Specifically, Durbin claims that “not every blogger, tweeter, or Facebook user is a journalist.”
Watchdogs, do you agree? Is reporting and blogging already covered under the First Amendment or do we need to create tiers of journalism in the media world? We want your thoughts! Share them on Facebook and twitter using the hash tag #Justablogger or email us your thoughts at firstname.lastname@example.org
