An acrimonious and sometimes loopy battle for the conservative heart of North Central Florida has ended, with voters giving incumbent freshman Rep. Ted Yoho an overwhelming victory in the 3rd District Republican primary.
With all but a handful of precincts reporting, Yoho received 79.32 percent of the 46,953 votes cast in a landslide victory over challenger Jake Rush, a lawyer from Gainesville. Yoho spent $452,000 to Rush’s $198,000, and still had $302,000 on hand as of Aug. 6.
“There was a lot of anxiety leading up to this moment,” Yoho told a cheering crowd of supporters at Perry Plantation & Kennels, a stone mansion in the middle of a pasture east of Gainesville. “The third is the best district in Florida. You showed us that you like what we are doing for you and we are going to work harder for you.” Read more at ocala.com.
