On Sunday’s Meet the Press, President Obama acknowledged that playing golf just minutes after addressing the nation about the brutal beheading of Journalist James Foley was a mistake. But did he concede that this showed disrespect to the Foley family? No. Did he admit that this revealed his lack of empathy and compassion? No. So what was his mistake?
Instead he said that he should have anticipated that hitting the links on Martha’s Vineyard just minutes after making that speech would be bad “optics.” In other words, that it would look bad, that the media would make him look bad. So what did Obama do right after taping the Meet the Press interview? You guessed it, he went golfing for about four hours, motorcade and all. How about those optics?
